Transitions

As the Soviets slowly removed barriers to emigration, the number of Jews eager to leave the country skyrocketed. When the newcomers arrived in Boston and other cities in the West, many faced the same obstacles that most immigrants experience—learning a new language, finding employment and housing, and securing an education. Many Soviet Jews were confronted with additional challenges related to their Jewish identity.
