Hanne, you are such a renaissance womanÌ¢âÂÛcan you tell us a little bit about how you manage to write books on so many varied topics, and how you got to this point in your career?

Thank you for the kind words. The short answer is that I regularly go into research libraries to try to find answers to questions I have, and discover that there seems to be a hole in the shelves... I can't find the book that answers my needs. So I am really writing for myself, in a way, creating the book that I wish were on the shelf when I showed up to look for it.

That is so funny--I have felt that way before too. It's like "Why has no one researched this yet?! I guess I have to." That makes a lot of sense to me.

Totally the story of my life, Etta. In this case I was lucky that there were actually a lot of people who had researched pieces of the puzzle, in various directions, so I had a lot of fantastic work to draw on in creating a synthesis for the general reader.

My curiosities about the world tend to center around the issues of bodies, self, and culture, and the ways those things intersect and interact. That's the throughline for everything I work on.
So excited to be here and hear from Hanne today! Thanks for coming.
