Kathryn Lum Headshot

Kathryn Lum is a UK-born, Canada-raised anthropologist, writer, professor, and gender equality trainer based in Brazil. Her writing has appeared in The Guardian, Economic and Political Weekly, The Conversation, Ecosprinter, Young Feminist Europe, Lonely Planet, and numerous academic journals. She has taught in Italy, the UK, and Brazil, and carried out ethnographic fieldwork in India, Spain, and Sweden. In Porto Alegre, Brazil, she worked to combat period poverty and stigma as a community educator, volunteered with the CIBAI center—which helps refugees integrate and regularize their legal status in Brazil—and set up a discussion group on everyday sexism in collaboration with the Fora da Asa Community Center.
