My mother is Black, the descendant of Africans abducted and enslaved in America, and my father is White, the descendant of Jews who wanted to assimilate so much, they didn’t teach my father or his siblings anything about Judaism.
Are Black people in Maisel treated as “less than” and stereotypes, well yes. None of the Black actors are in the IMDb “top cast.” This is the same as 95% of series. Dinah Rutledge is a single mom without childcare. Her boyfriend beats her up, and she needs a white savior, Susie to save her. Typical. (Except Larry Wilmore, Issa Rae, Quinta Brunson, and a few other series)
Regarding the Maisels vs the Weismann’s - the juxtaposition creates drama. Shirley and Rose are both funnier than Midge.
If the characters didn’t make bad decisions, there wouldn’t be a show.
I loved the sets, the color schemes and the clothes. Shirley, Rose and Midge’s wardrobes were sumptuous and enough for my enjoyment of the show.
