I have always been interested in Native American Affairs and conditions. In the folk lore on both sides of my family it was claimed that we were part Native Americans. I always felt pride, and felt a deep connection. As the years have passed, and more and more concern has been in the media for a number of other ethnic groups, and days, weeks and even a month has been set aside for Black History, it hurt my heart that the Native American History was ignored, not honored as it should be. I do not believe any group has suffered as greatly on these lands, as Native Americans. I believe more should be done, by both government agencies, and not-for-profits to promote education, awareness, empathy and understanding to the Native American culture, and they contributions of their people, despite not being treated with the appropriate/deserved respect. It would be great if this article and site would offer information on how to make a difference, and pressure state and national government to correct this grievous oversight.
