While there may be a time and a place to focus on the aspects of remorse, "rehabilitation," etc, focusing only on that ignores the experience millions of Americans have inside the prison and corrections systems. Having been at the talk, and now 3/4 of the way through the heart-wrenching and enraging book, I am deeply appreciative that Susan took this opportunity to bravely share her account of that experience, since it remains in the shadows at least in the white/Jewish mainstream, and she has done a tremendous task by asking us to engage with it.
