I watched the PBS Documentary on Feb. 28 about the Triangle Fire. Jewish immigrant workers were mentioned briefly, but the focus was mostly on the labor strikes, the owners and some dramatic profiles of the women who died. What we need to remember is that there were other victims, those left behind, such as my great-grandmother and grandmother, widow and one-year old child of one of the men who worked there. Four generations of the women in my family have visited the grave of my great-grandfather. Much to our surprise, long after my grandmother had passed, we discovered that her younger half-sister had replaced the grave stone many years ago. She was a woman ahead of her time and one of the quiet heroines of our family. On March 25th, I will be at the 100th Anniversary Commemoration not only to remember the women and men who lost their lives, but to honor the woman who have been my inspiration.
