I know you wrote this 4 years ago but thought I'd try anyway. My grandmother made her mohn cookies with onion. She was from Ukraine. Here is the recipe as she gave it to my mother.
1 cup sugar 2 cups flour (more as needed in prep) 1 t baking powder pinch salt finely grated small onion 2 eggs, beaten 1/2 c oil 1/2 container poppy seeds
Combine dry ingredients and mix with a fork or whisk to distribute evenly. Combine wet ingredients. Make a well and pour all at once into dry ingredients. Combine quickly and gently. You may use a mixer, but it's not as authentic, in case you care. Preheat oven to 350 F. Roll out dough to 1/4 inch, adding flour if too sticky. The thinner the dough the crisper the cookie. Use a juice glass or cookie cutters to make cookies and line cookie sheets with parchment or lightly grease. If you want to you can brush the cookies with a beaten egg white wash. Bake 15 min. until lightly browned.
