I have endeavored to remember those who died for equal and civil rights of others, I often think of Michael Schwerner, James Chaney, and Andrew Goodman. I not only felt bad about their young lives being sacrificed through hate and terror but how much their families would grieve. I didn't know that Michael Schwerner's wife Rita instrumental in provoking an investigation into her son and his companions disappearance, and subsequent murder, and that Andrew Goodman's mother Carolyn whom continued to carry out her son's work for social justice. I also didn't know that the Schwerner and Goodman's family helped the Chaney family, James parents, Fannie and Ben and four younger siblings leave Mississippi due to death threats. Michael Schwerner, James Chaney and Andrew Goodman's death was not in vain, their families made sure of that. The world had the fortune of having those young men in it, while their mission was brief, it meant everything to the rest of us and generations to come. May homage be paid to them and their families for their courage and sacrifice. Thank you Ms. Rosenbaum for your article.
