Since my daughter is not into dolls this new addition to the American Girl line-up came as a complete surprise. I did receive a number of funny emails the roll-out weekend, and continuing on for my less connected friends. Since I am of Russian-American descent, and grew up in the Lower East Side, naturally I feel a certain sense of pride and invasion at the same time. I have dark brown hair so I'm annoyed that they changed that. But how did they pick my name? Rebecca Rubin while delightfully alliterative is hardly the most commmon Jewish American woman's name, then or now. I suppose I could write to the company and see if they would share the information, but that would kind of spoil the fun.
