Dr. Reyersbach was my doctor from age 2 through about 19. I always looked forward to my yearly checkup and even sick visits, as her offices (in Boston and Cambridge) and she herself exuded an aura of both love and profound competence. The first part of her examinations were interviews performed from behind her large desk, before moving closer for a physical. She treated even her youngest patients with true respect.
I recall once, as I entered my teens, she asked me if I had been exposed to drugs at school. I told her I had been aware of it, but not tried any. She replied "If you're curious about it, you go ahead and try it. You'll see it's not for you," with a happily dismissive nod.
These many years since her passing, I was moved to search her name and was fascinated to discover her story as a young emigre. I would so liked to have attended her retirement party described above. I can only have faith that she was aware of the profound effect she had on those she cared for. Her memory is indeed for a blessing.
