Shira Lissek

From Dr. James Goldman

“Ani Maamin, I Believe: A Voice for Humanity” is a prayerful and reflective love poem to the human spirit.

You inspire me because

You’ve created an album --“Ani Maamin, I Believe: A Voice for Humanity” -- which is a prayerful and reflective love poem to the human spirit as we search for answers reminding us of our responsibility as a people to remember, see the humanity in each other, and make the world a better place. Thank you for taking your experience as the daughter of a Holocaust Hidden Child, esteemed Hazzan Leon Lissek, and helping us learn from your family’s story of survival and the tragedy of the past to inform the present. In the end, it is dehumanization that caused this and other genocides to occur. The antidote is recognizing our shared humanity with the world entire. As survivors will not be here forever, it is incumbent upon us to share the stories we have been entrusted with from generation to generation – which you’ve done with your music, vocal radiance and words of wisdom.

Something I have learned from you is

Thank you, Hazzan Shira, for enriching the world entire with your radiant vocal brilliance and wise words.

You can also honor someone important in your life by selecting a "We Celebrate Tribute" in the JWA store.
