Santa Fe 2010 - Shopping, art, and a final group dinner
Rachel King
We had free time this morning, which people used to continue exploring museums and to shop (this group knows how to shop! ... and each Santa Fe store is better than the one before).
This afternoon we went to the Santa Fe Art Institute, where we met photographer Gay Block, artist Gloria Abella, and anthropologist Doris Francis. They gave presentations of their work, which were provocative and moving.
To continue the embarrassment of riches, this evening we attended the big event in town: The Georgia O'Keefe museum was honoring Annie Liebovitz as their 2010 Woman of Distinction. Over projections of stunning landscapes and her inimitable portraits, Liebovitz shared funny, poignant stories of her career and her life before receiving her award.
At 9 pm, we moved on to the superb Geronimo Restaurant for a final dinner together. The warmth and kinship in the room were palpable, new-found friends were chatting and laughing together, and I was struck again by what an extraordinary trip this has been on so many levels. Sunday morning's session on Crypto-Jews is much-anticipated, but the good-byes that follow it will surely be bittersweet.
