Nathan Rothstein
Nathan Rothstein was born in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1984. He grew up in Lexington, Massachusetts, and graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, with a degree in history. Rothstein founded Project Repat, which creates custom quilts from upcycled clothing. He met his wife, Caroline Goodspeed Gammill, in New Orleans while helping with the recovery after Hurricane Katrina.
Nathan talks about his family history, parents, and Jewish upbringing. His father is the author of Make Just One Change and the founder of the Right Question Institute. Nathan discusses his experience in Jewish Day School, growing up in Lexington, and attending the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He first came to New Orleans with Hillel to help with recovery projects after Hurricane Katrina. After college, Nathan returned to New Orleans, working for a nonprofit called Phoenix of New Orleans. When Nathan finished this project, he began working with the Jewish Federation to recruit young Jewish professionals to the city. He has also developed an organization called YURP, Young Urban Rebuilding Professionals, an interfaith, inter-racial alliance of young professionals that will share information and resources.
