African American Doll Produced by the Alexander Doll Company

In the early 1950s, the Alexander Doll Company was one of the first major American toy companies to begin manufacturing an African American doll. The doll not only fulfilled Alexander's goal of using dolls to expose children to many different cultures, it also allowed the company to extend its marketing reach more deeply into the black community.
