Gila Toledano

Gila Toledano was the right hand of Sara Levi-Tanai for twenty-six years and one of the founders of the Inbal Dance Theatre. During the eight years prior to her retirement in 1977 she was the executive director of the company. She established the Israel Dance Archives and created the Israel Dance Library, which she directed for fourteen years, stepping down from this position upon her retirement.

Gila Toledano received a master’s degree in History of Erez Israel from the Tel Aviv University with a thesis on the first decade of Inbal. She has written a book on Inbal, Levi-Tanai’s creative work and her contribution to Israel’s society and culture.

Sara Levi-Tanai was the founder, choreographer, and artistic director of the Inbal Dance Theater. With an original style, she established a unique dance theater that combined the East and West and the early history of the Nation of Israel with the present, as well as creating a new language of movement in the world of dance that is called “the Inbal language.”
