Renate Tobies
Renate Tobies, of the Fraunhofer-Institut für Techno- und Wirtschaftsmathematik Kaiserslautern (Germany), is the author of more than a hundred publications in the history of mathematics and related fields, including Aller Männerkultur zum Trotz: Frauen in Mathematik und Naturwissenschaften and Traumjob Mathematik! Berufswege von Frauen und Männern in der Mathematik. She is the managing editor of the International Journal of History and Ethics of Natural
Sciences, Technology and Medicine. She has taught in Germany at the University of Leipzig, the University of Göttingen, the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg, the University of Kaiserslautern, where she held the Sofja Kowalewskaja
Visiting Professorship in 1993, and at the University of Stuttgart. In the summer term of 2001 she became a visiting professor in history of mathematics and women’s studies at the University of Linz (Austria), in winter 2003/2004 and in summer 2005 she held the Maria Goeppert-Mayer Visiting Professorship at the Technical University of Braunschweig. Currently she is involved in an interdisciplinary research project, “Women in Mathematics: Career Development in Mathematics from a Gender-Comparative Perspective,” supported by the German Volkswagen Foundation, which is being conducted at the Frauenhofer-Institut.
