Mark A. Raider

Mark A. Raider is assistant professor of modern Jewish history at the State University of New York at Albany. He received his B.A. from the University of California at Santa Cruz and his M.A. and Ph.D. from Brandeis University. He is the author of Papers of Admiral Lewis L. Strauss: Manuscript Collection, 1908–1973 and is at work on American Jews and the Zionist Movement.

Pioneer Women in the United States

Pioneer Women, the Labor Zionist women’s organization in the United States—today called Na’amat—was officially founded in 1925. The new group sought to elevate the public profile of the halutzot (Zionist women pioneers) in the Yishuv (Palestine Jewish settlement community) and to help the pioneer women’s cooperatives in Palestine through American-based philanthropic efforts.
