Andrea Lieber

Andrea Lieber is associate professor of religion at Dickinson College, where she holds the Sophia Ava Asbell Chair in Judaic Studies. She received her B.A. from Vassar College and her Ph.D. from Columbia University. She publishes articles in the area of early Jewish and Christian mysticism and is presently co-chair of the Association for Jewish Studies Women’s Caucus.

Edith Jacobi Baerwald

Although Baerwald was born into a privileged, upper-class family, her wealth did not isolate her with respect to social class. She was deeply interested in the social structure of New York City, and recognized her ability to contribute to the lives of others less fortunate than herself. She considered volunteer work a social obligation, and poured her time and tireless energy into numerous projects.

A proud United States citizen and active civic leader, Barbara Ochs Adler was a committed advocate for social welfare. Her life’s work, which combined important contributions to both Jewish and American social service organizations, paints a portrait of a woman who strongly identified herself as both Jewish and American.
