Sally Frankental
Sally Frankental is a socio-cultural anthropologist who taught in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Cape Town (1973-2009) and was the first director of the Kaplan Centre for Jewish Studies and Research (1980-1992). She was a member of the South African Jewish Board of Deputies (Cape Council) (1980-84) and one of the founding members of the anti-apartheid organization Jews for Justice. She served as the South African Country Coordinator for the “Cities in the 21st Century” study abroad program (1999-2018) and travelling faculty for the program (2011-2014). Her main research interests are ethnicity, identity, migration, and urban studies, as well as South African Jewry and Israeli society.
