Irene G. Dash
Irene Golden Dash, Shakespearean scholar and feminist, received her Ph.D. from
Columbia University in 1971 and taught English and Shakespeare at Hunter College, CUNY,
from 1972 until retiring in 2004. She is the author of Wooing, Wedding, and Power: Women in
Shakespeare’s Plays (Columbia,1981), Women’s Worlds in Shakespeare’s Plays (Delaware,
1997) which was awarded Outstanding Academic Book of 1997, and Shakespeare and the
American Musical (Indiana, 2010). A Reconstructionist all her life, she searched for
answers to questions of identity as an American living in two civilizations.
