Tom Bolton
Tom Bolton obtained his first degree in physiology at the University of London under the direction of Professor Emmanuel Amoroso (“Amo”). He then completed his Ph.D. degree in pharmacology under Professor Bill Bowman. After obtaining a further degree at The Royal Veterinary College of the University of London he moved to the Department of Pharmacology at Oxford University as a postdoctoral assistant to Professor Edith Bulbring. When Bulbring retired, Bolton continued in that department as a research fellow, finally as a Royal Society Locke Research Fellow. Later he became Professor and Head of Department at St George’s Hospital Medical School. With Professor Alison Brading he wrote Bulbring’s biography for the Royal Society archives. He has served on a number of editorial boards of scientific journals and as a panel member for grant–awarding bodies and in other advisory capacities. He is a member of the Academy of Medical Sciences and an elected member of Academia Europaea.
