Sara Alpern
Sara Alpern received her Ph.D. from the University of Maryland. She is an associate professor of history at Texas A&M University, where she teaches U.S. history and the history of American women. Alpern is the author of Freda Kirchwey: A Woman of the Nation and a contributor to and co-editor of The Challenge of Feminist Biography: Writing the Lives of Modern American Women. She has written on a number of topics in women’s history, including the effects of woman suffrage, the history of eating disorders among women and the history of women in management. Her most recent article, “Harriet Williams Russell Strong: Inventor and California Businesswoman Extraordinaire” (2005), is part of her ongoing work on a book manuscript on the history of women in business.
