Daily Skimm founders Carly Zakin and Danielle Weisberg.

Frustrated by friends who didn’t share her passion for the news, Danielle Weisberg joined forces with longtime friend Carly Zakin to create theSkimm, a digital newsletter for millennials. Weisberg graduated from Tufts in 2008, interned at MSNBC, and worked for the Daily Beast before joining NBC as an associate producer for its news programs. There she reconnected with Zakin, whom she had first met while studying abroad in Rome. Although both were passionate about their work, their friends didn’t seem to follow the news, constantly asking them what was happening in the world. The pair decided to fill the void, and in 2012 they created theSkimm, a daily news digest that recasts current events using conversational language, broader context, and a format that breaks stories up into smaller bytes, all geared towards how millennials digest information. Since 2012, theSkimm has grown to 250 staffers and 7 million subscribers. TheSkimm has evolved since its inception, now offering six newsletters, three podcasts, and a mobile app.
