Marjorie Ingall’s 2016 parenting guide Mamaleh Knows Best offers a blend of empathy, ethics, and practical advice that readers have come to expect from her “East Village Mamaleh” column in the Forward. Ingall graduated from Harvard in 1989 and served as editor and senior writer for Sassy from 1990 until the magazine closed in 1994. She then became a freelance writer for periodicals as wide-ranging as The New York Times Book Review, Wired, Real Simple, and Ms. Magazine, and was a contributing editor at Glamour. She published her first book, the playful Field Guide to North American Males, in 1997, and collaborated on several other books. In 2003 she began writing for the Forward, where she eventually created her “East Village Mamaleh” advice column, and in 2009 she became a columnist for Tablet.
