When the reality of playing for the WNBA turned out to be less than she had dreamed, Shay Doron took her MVP skills back to her home team in Israel. In her first two years of high school, Shay Doron won over sixty medals for track events and led her school basketball team to five championships. Dreaming of a spot in the WNBA, she moved to New York for her junior and senior years, earning MVP and Player of the Tournament honors at the Nike Tournament of Champions. She played for the University of Maryland from 2003–2007, helping the team make four straight NCAA Championship appearances. In 2005 she became the first Israeli named MVP at European National Tournament and earned MVP status at the Maccabiah Games for leading the American team to a 5-0 victory. She played for one year in the WNBA for the New York Liberty in 2007, but was frustrated with her lack of time on the court, with only 35 minutes of play in seven games. She played for Israel’s Elitzur Ramle team in the WNBA’s off season, then officially left the WNBA in 2008, playing briefly for Romania before officially joining Elitzur Ramle in 2010. As of 2015 she plays shooting guard for Maccabi Ashdod.
