Jewish Women in the Military - Chaplains
In 1984, Reconstructionist Rabbi Bonnie Koppell became the first woman officially endorsed as a chaplain in the United States military, while serving in the Army reserves. It was not until 1992, however, that the late Rabbi Chana Timoner (pictured below) was appointed the first full time active duty female chaplain in the United States military.
Shalom,
Is there anything that the JCC can do to partner with the JWV to encourage retiring or departing active duty military in transitioning to becoming members of the JWV?
Be well,
Sidney L. Davis, Jr (HM1 SW/AW USN RET)
JWV Massachusetts Department Senior Vice Commander
Lt. Frances Y. Slanger Post 22.
