Sandy Levy
One of the first to fight to preserve the unique character of New Orleans, Sandy Levy created the Historic District Landmarks Commission in 1975 and threw herself into the effort to preserve the architecture and history of the city while still encouraging economic development. When she retired in 1991, she refocused her attention on the Jewish community as president of Temple Sinai and director of the Jewish Endowment Foundation. After Hurricane Katrina, she used her fundraising network and her passion for the local community to raise money to help those who had been devastated by the storm.
